Apple Music seemingly mocks Spotify's incessant price hike

Apple Music posted yesterday that it will maintain its original prices, a move interpreted by netizens and bloggers as a veiled criticism of Spotify’s continuous price increases.

Earlier this month, some netizens complained about Spotify’s “price increases year after year,” comparing it with QQ Music and Apple Music, arguing that the former was inferior to the latter two.

It’s worth noting that Spotify announced in January that its US Premium subscription would increase in price starting this month. Spotify claimed that the price increase was to “continue to provide a superior customer experience.”

  • Spotify Premium’s individual subscription price has increased from $11.99 per month to $12.99 per month. For comparison, Apple Music’s individual subscription in the US is $10.99 per month.

  • The Premium Family plan (which can be used by up to six users) has increased in price from $19.99 per month to $21.99 per month. For comparison, Apple Music’s US family subscription costs $16.99 per month.

Over the past few years, Spotify has seen several price increases for its subscriptions. In 2023, Spotify raised the price of its US individual subscription from $9.99 to $10.99. In 2024, Spotify raised the price to $11.99, and now Spotify is raising prices again.
