After the 2026 I/O developer conference, Google AI Search Overview has a logical glitch and cannot correctly handle the word “disregard”.
At the 2026 I/O Developer Conference, Google unveiled a “smart search box” built on Gemini, hoping to reshape the user’s search experience.
However, according to user feedback, after searching for the term “disregard,” the AI did not return a definition or related webpage. Instead, it recognized it as a system command and directly replied, “Received, message ignored.” Find the relevant screenshots below:
This bug caused a large blank area in the AI Overview section, obscuring the regular search results below. Although users can still see standard content such as the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition by scrolling down, the initial screen experience is ruined. A similar issue exists on mobile devices, although the blank area is relatively smaller.
The problem isn’t limited to “disregard”. Tests show that words with command meanings, such as “ignore”, “stop”, and even “remember”, also trigger the AI’s “execution mode” rather than “search mode”.
