Montage Technology issued an announcement stating, “On July 15, the Fair Trade Investigation Department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office conducted an on-site search and evidence collection at the company’s South Korean office regarding potential violations of antitrust regulations. The company is fully cooperating with all investigative requests from the Prosecutors’ Office. As of the date of this announcement, neither the company nor its directors or employees have been accused of any misconduct by the Prosecutors’ Office or any government agency. The company’s operations are currently normal, and the company will continue to focus on product development and serving its customers.”
Tech free press noted that, according to South Korea’s Maeil Business Newspaper, South Korean prosecutors raided the offices of Montage Technology, Renesas Electronics, and Rambus in South Korea on July 15, accusing them of violating the Fair Trade Act. These companies’ main clients are memory chip companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
The report states that during the search and seizure, prosecutors allegedly seized a company executive’s mobile phone. Based on an analysis of the seized materials, prosecutors expect to investigate whether information was exchanged between the companies, the timing and scope of collusion, and its impact on the actual delivery price.
