The Model Y offers ample storage space, but its large trunk volume makes it easy for small items to slide around during acceleration or sharp turns. Previously, owners had to purchase third-party accessories to secure trunk items; now, Tesla’s official storage solution is finally available.
Tesla’s official overseas online store has launched the Model Y Expandable Trunk Organizer, priced at $245 (approximately RMB 1666 at the current exchange rate), which can provide one-stop storage for various items in the vehicle. The organizer features four expandable storage compartments and two mesh pockets to help users organize trunk clutter.
The entry-level Model Y has a standard trunk capacity of 29.5 cubic feet (835 liters), which expands to 70.8 cubic feet (2004 liters) with the second-row seats folded down, enough to fit large suitcases, golf bags, or heavy gym bags. However, if you’re loading loose items such as fresh produce, picnic food, children’s sports equipment, or toys, storage challenges will become apparent.
This factory-installed storage box can be placed directly in the main trunk area behind the upright second-row seats. The entire set comes with four integrated, non-removable storage compartments. A major design highlight is that each individual storage compartment can be completely folded flat, quickly freeing up floor space when not in use for convenient placement of large items.
In recent months, Tesla has continued to expand its self-operated accessories product line. For example, the online store recently opened a separate purchase channel for the Cybertruck off-road roof light, an accessory previously only available in limited quantities with the Founder Edition Cyberbeast model. The Tesla China online store has also listed a retractable sunshade compatible with the Model Y’s panoramic glass roof; North American and European owners have been eagerly awaiting its arrival in their local online stores.
Before purchasing this new storage box, please note an important compatibility notice: the product details page clearly states that this storage box is not compatible with the seven-seat Model Y, as the trunk space structures of the two are incompatible.
