Xiaohongshu officially released an announcement today regarding the crackdown on illegal gambling activities related to the World Cup, stating that it will continue to focus on combating illegal gambling and related promotional information during the World Cup.
Tech Free Press has attached the following specific scope of the rectification:
1. Posting or displaying information that promotes gambling on sports
In content scenarios such as notes, comments, live broadcasts, and account information, gambling website and platform links and invitation codes are directly posted or displayed through covert means such as screenshots, watermarks, slang, and homophones to induce users to gamble outside the platform;
2. Using the World Cup as a pretext to induce participation in gambling or illegal betting
They lure users into participating in illegal betting activities by packaging themselves as score predictions, odds analysis, and tips, or by using slogans such as “leading bets,” “guaranteed compensation,” and “insider information.”
3. Seeking, promoting, or disseminating illegal channels for betting on sports
Posting information seeking gambling platforms or betting groups; stimulating or inducing others to participate in gambling by posting screenshots of profits, sharing betting experiences, or promoting “getting back on your feet” (i.e., recovering losses).
4. Selling lottery tickets online or providing ticket issuance services (Xiaohongshu)
The platform publishes information on online lottery sales, ticket purchasing and group buying, or guides users to transfer money to purchase lottery tickets.
Any form of online gambling, illegal betting, and related promotional activities are suspected of being illegal and in violation of regulations. The platform will take action against relevant content and accounts in accordance with its rules, including but not limited to removing illegal content, restricting the use of functions such as private messaging and group chat, and banning accounts that spread illegal gambling information.
Xiaohongshu calls on every user to watch the games rationally and discuss them civilly, to be wary of all forms of illegal gambling and external links, and to work together to protect a healthy and safe community environment.
