Valve Releases Stable Update to Steam Deck, Adding Several New Features Including Remote Download

Valve released a new update for the Steam Deck handheld console today, bringing several new features. The update is now available on the stable update channel and users can download and install it immediately. The most significant new feature is remote download support.

Now, users can remotely start and pause game downloads on the Steam Deck and view the download progress in real time via the Steam client on Windows PCs or Macs.

The quick menu is now integrated with Steam Chat, allowing players to more easily open the chat window while playing the game. Another new feature supports pre-saving reply messages, allowing for quick selection and sending of preset messages.

A new system setting has been added that allows users to launch the Linux desktop environment directly from the login screen, enabling faster access to desktop mode; this is particularly useful for users who frequently need to install non-Steam applications.

Steam Deck now displays the battery status of wireless game controllers. Valve has also optimized compatibility with wireless networks that require additional authentication.

Tech Free Press noted that this update also fixed a number of minor bugs: such as system lag caused by too many unread notifications, and potential loss of cloud saves if the game was uninstalled and then re-downloaded without restarting Steam.
