Sony is Developing Brand-new Horror Shooter for PS6, Using Unreal Engine 5

Gaming media outlet MP1ST published an early preview of the Sony PS6 game console yesterday. The new console will bring a brand new horror shooter game and support next-generation cloud gaming capabilities.

According to MP1ST, Tech Free Press reports that Sony is collaborating with another studio to develop a AAA game for the existing PS5 and next-generation PS6 consoles, focusing on an “immersive third-person horror shooter” using the Unreal Engine 5. The specific partner and game title are still unclear, but the title will utilize motion capture technology and feature a player progression system.

It’s worth noting that there were previous rumors that Sony’s Firesprite studio was developing a survival horror game called “Project Heartbreak.” However, the studio laid off staff in 2024, leading to the cancellation of projects such as “Twisted Metal,” and it’s currently uncertain whether “Project Heartbreak” is still in development.

However, the next-generation horror shooter game mentioned above was still in development between August and October last year, so we cannot know the specifics at present.

Meanwhile, Sony has no plans to abandon cloud gaming. Cloud gaming server infrastructure for next-generation consoles has been under development for 3-4 years. Currently, the PS5’s cloud gaming server uses PCIe Gen 5 NVMe hard drives, while the PS6’s cloud gaming will use PCIe Gen 5 NVMe, suggesting that the PS6 itself will also adopt the same hard drive specifications.

Furthermore, Sony will upgrade its PSSR technology to continue pushing the limits of hardware potential. The new console’s controller is expected to retain the SAVANT architecture and feature an array touchpad for more realistic haptic feedback.
