Bethesda announced that it will release a storage expansion update for the console version of Fallout 4 on May 27, easing the long-standing restrictions on mod storage space for console players and allowing them to download more content from the in-game Creations Center.

Creations is the in-game content acquisition and mod distribution portal for Fallout 4, essentially an official integrated content creation center. Players can browse, download, and enable various new missions, weapons, cosmetics, or gameplay extensions within it.

Prior to this update, the Creations storage limit on the Xbox Series S|X platform was 2GB; the update expands it to 100GB. For players who enjoy installing large missions, texture packs, and weapon content, this means a significantly larger selection of mods.

The Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 previously only had 1GB or 2GB of Creations space; the update will increase this to approximately 15GB. Bethesda states that the increased space will help console players download larger and more complex Creations content.

However, the official announcement also reminded players that this update may reset the mod loading order, potentially causing compatibility issues or save file errors. If players haven’t resaved their old save files since November 10, 2024, it’s best to enter the game before updating and save a new file.
